I can’t tell you the last time I’ve worn a watch. Army son, when he was in high school, bought me a watch for Christmas, saved his money, a Seiko. It is a prized possession. I’ve never forgotten how proud he was and how blessed I am.
Over the last several years I’ve taken to paying attention to who wears which watch. They tell you a lot about a person. I’ve learned about Patek, Omega, of course Rolex, and then there’s the sketchy Breitling, number forty whatever of two hundred whatever. I accidentally stumble upon sketchy the last ten or twelve years.
Last week a tall drink of water visited downtown. I found it hard to focus what with his military history and stories and flashy watch, beautiful smile, and engaging charm. Seemingly out of the blue to him, probably, but my mind knew where I was going, I ask about his watch. It’s one I’ve never seen or heard of before. As if he knows my curious mind, he tells me something like, “A bit of history,” and proceeds with the history lesson. Ball is the name of the company, founded on necessity from adversity, my words, should I mess up the story with inaccuracies. Anyway, tonight I was thinking about his stories, wanting to know more about Ball watches, so I head to their website. After perusing a bit, I click on the Mission link.
(Sidenote: I’ve encountered a smidge of adversity the last month or so. I’ll tell the story when the time is right. But for now, this is what I found on a random website because a random man was wearing a random watch I’d never seen before, and he randomly stops by to chat. There are no accidents, no coincidences.)
Mission:
“And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
Genesis 1:3
Every one of us has a light inside of us — a light that can burn self-doubt to the ground and illuminate our path ahead.
Align with your true, authentic self and step into the purpose and calling you have for your life. Rise up to your challenge as it is courage during difficult times that defines yourself.
Let there be light.
When the odds and opportunity seem unfair… remember that it’s always darkest before the dawn.
Rise up to your challenge to go through the darkness in order to see the beauty in life. Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. Giving up is never ever an option.
Maintain independence. Freedom.
Life is a journey, not a destination.
Find out who you are through exploring the world.
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.
Never stop doing what you think is right. Things worth doing never ever come easy.
The purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
Let your light shine. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance.
Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. God will not have his work made manifest by cowards. Always do what you are afraid to do. Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.
Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best self. Be Your Greatest Self.
Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.
At Ball Watch Company, we are focused on building the most accurate and robust watches for the great multitude... construct of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise... so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one-and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces.
