He is one hundred percent correct. We see it every day in our messed-up world. Mean Girls perfected gossip. Work, world leaders, movers, and shakers perfected influence tactics, stirring up trouble, some good, mostly evil, everywhere. This sad truth can be nipped in the bud with another simple truth he stated, this by Socrates standards: 

Is it true?

Is it good?

Is it useful? 

If not, then why go there and why are you allowing your ears to be used as garbage containers?

Manipulation is sneaky and real. If they know your strengths, you can be sure they will exploit your weaknesses. 

Don't be a tool.
