I See Good People

I pray for good people in my life.

God delivers.

I LOVE this story, now. I was frustrated at the time, but I was so covered in love and help and prayer and wisdom.

From top to bottom I'm covered in love and help and prayer and wisdom.

Every.

Day.

I see good people.

Salad sounded good for lunch. It's my Friday. Taking the time to prepare lunch before leaving for work wasn't appealing.

Albertson's it is.

As I start the little white Honda, it acts a bit wonky. I'm not even five miles out of town when every light on my dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree. Oh, please make it to work, little faithful car, please. The little engine tried but failed. It died. I'm able to pull gently, slowly, to the side of the road. Flashers on, I call AAA for a jump, or more likely, a tow. After thirty minutes on hold with AAA, my phone battery is depleted, AAA still hasn't located me, and it's 23°. (It doesn't take long to cool your jets in Wyoming.)

I message the boss to let him know it's not looking good for today. I'm stalled on the side of the road.

Googling symptoms in-between chat with AAA, it would appear my alternator is kaput. Could be ignition, heck, it could be a dead battery. I'm fairly certain there's an alternator issue.

AAA still can't find me, my phone is down to 2%, I don't want to call law enforcement. I hang up on the condescending jerk who can't find me, and I call the local towing service. Fourteen, the number of calls before me, but I'm in line for a tow. That's all that matters.

Boss messages me, "Would you like me to come get you, take you to work?"

If I can leave my car, his suggestion is the best suggestion. Towing company is fine with me leaving my car. Boss to the rescue.

I am SO grateful.

I'm at work for a few minutes, phone rings, it's Lady J.

"Don't rent a car. We have a Mercedes SUV you can use. It's old, but it runs."

We have a Mercedes you can use. Did you read that?

Does your boss fetch you off the side of the road, and then the other boss calls and offers a Mercedes, while your little white 2009 Honda is repaired?

How about those benefits?

I receive a message from my colleague, T (Louisiana), she checks in to see if I want her to pick me up and get me to work.

And then there is N (Sweet Home Alabama), she leaves a message, never mind how she even knew I was floundering:

"Hey sweetie, I just wanted to make sure you had a ride home. Please let me know if you need help. I will be happy to come pick up your pretty butt and take you home to Maggie and George. So just let me know, okay? Hope you had a good day. I love you. Bye bye."

The best part? Pretty butt. Made me smile.

I almost weep typing tonight, but I wept a bit this morning, sitting on the side of the road, just wanting to get to work.

This is family.

Yes, it's the alternator. "Do you also change oil?"

"Yes."

"Can we add that to the list while we're spending money?"

 "Of course."

Good comes from tough situations.

Always.

I'm glad today's my Friday.

Remember my employer when you visit Jackson.
