Lots and lots of heavy, wet snow, driving to work today. Not really knowing what to expect, if I would be sent home, you know, the things most of y’all are experiencing too, it didn’t take long to learn the Mountain is closed for the season. Big flaming lighted signs announced the closure, shortly after turning onto Lots and lots of heavy, wet snow, driving to work today. Not really knowing what to expect, if I would be sent home, you know, the things most of y’all are experiencing too, it didn’t take long to learn the Mountain is closed for the season. Big flaming lighted signs announced the closure, shortly after turning onto Village Road. I peeked at my phone to see if there were any messages telling me to go home, no work. Nope, nothing. So, I arrive, unlock our boutiques, and set about the business of the day.
God was showing out today. He brought fascinating people to me, per usual. One guest, well, I think I have a new friend. She said the young lady who told them the mountain was closed, said she probably wouldn’t have a job tomorrow. I shared with her, this is a fact for many people, in Jackson. Indeed, across the nation so many are affected. We’re in this together.
Anyway, I learned her son is in Afghanistan, Ranger, 82nd Airborne. He’s seen evil, numerous times, he’s changed, to be expected. They will adjust to a new norm when he eventually returns to the States. His return has been delayed due to coronavirus. I shared Mercy Me’s Even If, with her, sharing the faithfulness of our God. She told me of words she will share, maybe someday, with the future wife of her son, should he ever marry. We wept together, feeling mom things, feeling for our country and world, so much pain and sorrow, uncertainty.
We laugh, trying on beautiful coats, jackets, and vests.
We had fun with her daughters, and as she put it, “this is just a diversion”. It was a much-needed break, the fun, from too much serious.
God showed Himself strong on my behalf, big. I’m grateful, blessed, and ready to take on tomorrow. I’ll pray again tomorrow, Psalm 91, for our country. Peace will flood my soul, again. I will watch expectantly for precious moments, as He slips into simplest exchanges between strangers, with each quickly becoming the bearer of others' burdens.
As this plays out, COVID-19, rely on one another. This nasty virus is forcing us to do things that were commonplace, forty years ago, before we lost our way. Help each other, love one another.
We are tired tonight.
