No Water

Friday, 13 January 2023

Getting ready to shower and pretty myself up a tad to run around town looking cute, I turn on water, alas no water is forthcoming. (10:36 a.m.)

Crass language like dang and crap were however forthcoming. I'd waited to drive into town until today. I needed to get out and about, business to tend.

Messaging property management, asking when we could expect water, they were unaware we are without.

An engineering firm is out here taking soil samples and perhaps inadvertently turned off power to our water source I'm told. Those who now own my place are preparing to build mini storage units on the property, come spring/summer. Or so the rumor mill suggests. I can neither confirm nor deny.

Maggie and I made a couple rounds in the neighborhood, inhaling fresh mountain air and absorbing sunlight. It's a beautiful day.

Here I sit.

Still no water.

There will not be a trip into town today to tend business. I need a shower.

UPDATE: "The geotechnical guys accidentally broke the electrical wire connected to the water line. Unfortunately the line cannot be replaced till Monday meaning there will be no water until then.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience." (4:05 p.m.)

Comfort with chaos ..  Apparently, I need more training as chaos has been fast and furious lately. There are times I completely remove myself from chaotic situations. There are times I breathe through chaos. And then there are times I want to throw in the towel.

I have no control over our water situation. What I do have control over is how I handle the situation. Self-sufficient, I'm prepared for most things most days. I have my own water with which I can wash my face and hands, brush my teeth, and I can flush my toilet.

Here's the plan:

Stop using potable water for flushing toilet. My balcony has 6 or 8 inches of snow. Collect snow in a big bowl, melt, and pour in toilet tank. Problem solved.

Same for washing dishes, rinsing with boiled water. Or move dishes to dishwasher for storage until water is available. Find my paper plates.

Heat bottled water for sponge bath. Any bath is better than no bath after a couple days.

I'm frustrated with me; my contingency plans aren't sufficient lately.

Depending on anyone for anything chaps my hide.

So, I don't.

I don't depend on anyone.
