I learned fast upon arriving in Wyoming that I had so much to learn.
My first little hike in new surroundings...
-1°
My intentions were good...get out, enjoy the fresh air, and take some pics to share with you guys. Layered up, ready to rock and roll, I start walking. And my sunglasses fog over. Apparently due to the funneling effect of the scarf wrapped around my neck and face. Hot air, some might say. Fumbling around with ski gloves, I wipe the fog from my glasses, and keep walking. A breath or two later, same thing.
Here's the deal: pocketing my glasses is not an option. 1) My prescription is in my sunglasses. How am I to see elk and big horn sheep, unless they walk right up to greet me, and 2) Sun reflecting off the snow is painful, not good for the eyes.
I am GOING to walk. Period. Other people are doing it, with less clothing. I can do this. I dilly-dally along, reading historical markers, wiping my sunglasses, and wiping a constantly running nose that is threatening to freeze, stalactite style.
I only walked two miles, but it was lovely. I didn't freeze, but my iPhone did. Or I guess it did. It wouldn't come on, and when it finally did, my previously fully charged battery was drained. (Need to google what that's about.)
My bangs and a little bit of hair around my face were the only things not covered. When I got to my car, they - the bangs and hair escaping my hood, were frozen-icicles. I looked frightful. Woulda got a pic, but again, my phone doth protest the cold.
I saw a herd of something. Too small and close to the ground to be elk. I did see big horn sheep, I believe. (Will google and make sure. Bunch of them, too.)
Problem needs solving: how to wear sunglasses without hot air causing them to fog, while staying warm.
Oceans and the mountains are where I find complete peace, solitude. I chose mountains. My ditz is showing; so much to learn. Mountain mama will survive.
I'm praying for Texas tonight, horrific weather in my home state. Stay safe, friends, and family.
This is the only picture taken before Apple iPhone freaks out over a little cool temperature.
