A Good Man

“Can you dance to this?” I was recently asked.

Oh peaches, I’ve been dancing all my life. I can dance to anything.

Here’s a funny story, because everyone needs a funny story now and again, especially right now...

I paid for dance lessons for ten years, faithfully wrote the check, for my daughter’s dance lessons. One does NOT pay for dance lessons, attend competitions, and not know how to dance.

One of my greatest compliments from her, doesn’t take much when you’re raising a teenager, was how proud she was of me for my dance skills.

I know, I laughed too.

So, one time, in a land far far away, there was a gentleman, straight as an arrow, by the book, one of my PhD friends. Often too serious, I liked to throw stuff at him, just to see what he would do, how he would respond.

We were talking about dancing, probably after Miley pulled some type shenanigans. I told him I could teach him how to twerk. (Mind you, I don’t find twerking particularly attractive or becoming, but my twenty-something-year-old-daughter thought I should learn one time, after we imbibed a bit. Apparently I was game.) My friend said in his best professor voice, “Well, that is one skill I never realized I needed or would use.”

I'm quite sure my laughter could be heard in the next county. The man has skills, all kinds of skills, but twerking certainly wasn’t on his radar.

I scared him.

He asked me one time, “Are you mind2020ing me?”

Pshttt, you’re the behaviorist, you tell me.

He still likes me.
