Gas

So, I ALMOST pulled a Brandon on my days off…but in my defense, my bike weighs around eighty pounds, fully loaded with Maggie Rose and all our gear. And it has a throttle. Anyway, I sprained my finger a little bit, my shin is patriotic — red, white, and blue — and my tummy may have jammed into the handlebars. Maybe. But I never hit the ground, just a split rail fence that has no business in the middle of the driveway. (My jacket got caught under my hiney as I was taking off and things went sideways. Is it any wonder Maggie Rose hates to see me wheeling the bike out from under the stairs? She was zipped in tight, so she was safe though a bit cattywampus. Poor puppy.)

This morning I ran by Albertsons quick-like to fill my water bottles before work. As I was loading six or seven gallons into my car, I was being careful with my pointer finger. I sat my phone on the buggy, which I NEVER do. I normally toss it in the car, you know, muscle memory, which doesn’t exist because muscles are stupid. Neurons and neural pathways.

I get to work. No phone. I know where I left it and once I was settled in the boutique I call Albertsons. They have my wallet, which also holds a tiny bit of cash, credit card, debit card, and my phone. She said there is no phone. I explain the phone is kinda hidden in a back pocket. Exasperated she checks again. My phone is right where it should be in the little pocket.

Thank you, God.

You see, I don’t think I will buy another phone, ever, unless it’s a burner or old school flip phone. And I certainly don’t need to spend money on even a cheap phone at this time. Gas is more important.

After work I stop by Albertsons and retrieve my phone. I am SO grateful for the man who turned it in. Yes, I left a reward (because one darn well better reward honesty these days, even when buying FJB gas).

I’m grateful tonight for kind gestures and honesty. I’m grateful to have my driver’s license and phone. I’m grateful I watched my speed and didn’t get pulled over by friendly police officers, without my license, even though I didn’t yet realize they were missing.

I’m tired tonight but muy grateful.
