Yes it was dark, so 'technically' 35 was the speed limit.
And 'technically' if the lights aren't flashing can traffic flow at 45mph? When dark? While eating a hamburger?
I was doing 46, and proud I was mostly abiding by the law, when the SO flashed his lights at whomever was about to be in trouble.
I was in trouble. It was me.
Carefully pulling over — and that road is a horrible place for LE to pull someone over — their safety and all, but he wasn't going to stop following me so I pulled to the side of the road.
"You were going 46."
"Why yes I was."
"I bumped my lights to get you to slow down, but you didn't slow down even a little."
"Because I was doing 46."
"The speed limit is 35."
In my head: what the heck?
"You sit here for a minute."
It's dark, I didn't get to watch him coming and going, you know, to decide if he is working out enough.
I was fortunate, he had mercy.
In my defense, those signs vary from sign to sign and you darn well better be a speed reader. Not all of them have flashing lights indicating seasonal speed limit changes. Hand over heart, in my humble opinion the limits change hourly.
