As predicted, the night was long. Numerous times I woke up wondering if the is the 'new time' or 'old time'. After looking at my oven clock I was able to confirm, yeah baby, it's after 2a.m. Whatever time.
This week was productive, beginning with knee surgery on Tuesday. The meniscal root repair April 1 was unsuccessful. Indeed, there was another tear in a different location. What the what? The only time it hurt me to where I wanted to curse was when Calvin the Sadist (Bad Cop) performed a good 'ole valgus/varus stress test. Again, what the what? My MCL wasn't injured, and I don't know why he felt the need to hurt me. Satan.
This is what I know from working with orthopedic doctors:
They are the physically roughest of all doctors, bar none. They also have no lack of self-confidence. (Case in point...the last time I visited, I heard one in the hallway reply to his patient, when said patient stated they wanted the 'best' doctor...Doctor Volkswagen size cojones tells patient, "I AM the best.") I laughed out loud. No you aren't Dr. Cojones, my doctor is THE best.
My doctor is all gentle, perfect bedside manner, hot. So, in other words, he doesn't do the dirty work. He sends Calvin in to perform pain inducing tests. And Satan's injections suck as well. Other than that, I like Calvin as long as he isn't touching me. Bottom line, he wouldn't be employed by my doctor if he wasn't good.
Back to surgery...I only had to use both crutches the first couple days. It's amazing how grateful I was to only need those puppies for a tiny amount of time, compared to eight weeks. I had to keep reminding myself that I could bend my knee, I could walk up stairs without worry, after the initial trip up to my place.
Doctor cleaned up all things knee, performed a partial meniscectomy, and did a little housekeeping.
The hardest part of all this is being patient. I feel good, so how about squats? Lunges yet? Dr. PT gives 'patience' as word of the day on Friday. PShhhttt...She reminds me I've been patient for most of 2021, two more weeks of rebuilding glutes, hams, and quads is nothing.
I work my home routine like my life depends on it, and I stretch, often.
Today I felt great and prepared a crustless spinach quiche for brunch. I want to tell you, this is SO good. I didn't have a pretty round quiche pan (that will change when I get to our Flagship location this week). So the picture provided is in a small baking casserole dish.
I'll include the recipe below. One could add just about any favorite ingredient to this.
To top it off, my knee isn't swollen, I'm not exhausted from simply standing, and I'm off to try a new stew recipe for dinner.
(We've had snow flurries, intermittently, huge flakes. Alas, the temp is too high right now for any accumulation. But my goodness, it's intermittently beautiful.)
Hope y'all are all well and healthy.
Maggie and I love you bunches.
xoxo,
Deb
