Steel Magnolias

She and I are Steel Magnolias.

She sounded weak today.

Each time we talk, which is not often enough, my intentions are to document our conversations.

I forget, get busy with life. Or so I think.

Or I need to get myself together, blow my nose, dry my eyes.

Not formally educated, she is one of the most knowledgeable people I know.

She’s a straight shooter, with a deep, raspy voice.

She makes me deep belly laugh with her no-nonsense assessment of our random discussion du jour.

She tells me stories without uttering words any worse than, say, butt. Let me tell you, her words are impactful, powerful, as if she carpet-bombed the F word. But she doesn’t. Not one time. She's a lady.

I FEEL every word.

Deep in my soul, I feel every word.

She’s good.

I’m not sure she’s ever been totally, fully aware of her worth.

More precious than silver and gold.

Her words of wisdom today, as she slips me a word or two of wisdom each time we get together: forgive. Always forgive.

Preserve memories.

Never forget.

I love you, big.
