All is going well, really well.
Woohoo!
Following surgery on my right knee, over a year ago, I was required to wear compression stockings, which are a nightmare. They were too long for my short-stack legs, and by the time I pulled them up to my tush, they acted more like a tourniquet than stockings. They pinched my butt. If any part of the stockings weren't pulled up sufficiently, they also pinched that area, as well. I needed to be compliant until I was able to weight-bear once again.
I ordered pretty little compression socks, as an alternative. These babies are not just for the elderly, or infirmed. (My healthcare professional friends wear these too, in colorful patterns, Stars and Stripes, you name it. Many of my athlete friends wear these. Some of my military friends wear them, due to horrible injuries. They all tell me their legs feel better after long days standing and/or working out.) During our peak seasons, days are long, so I figure why not, give 'em a try.
They make a difference. No joke. They aren't just for post-surgery.
So here we are again, not two years later, and I injure my left knee.
Same after-surgery protocol, wear the damn stockings.
Risking the alternative, blood clots, would be beyond foolish.
Some of the socks I was allergic, to materials from which they were made. I'd end up with dermatitis. Though cute, in a compression sock kinda way, after long hours, I would breakout in a rash, itching like crazy.
This round of 'rebuild Debbie', I found Physix Gear Stamina Socks. These babies are amazing. Rather than squeezing the poo out of your toes in an unnatural position, there is a roomy toe box, along with graduated compression, 20-30mmHg. They come up high enough over my leg to cover my incisions, without binding. They're snug, as they should be. I ordered S/M.
Just a little piece of information for those who are on their feet for extended periods of time.
I'm not a medical doctor, I've never played one on TV. Check with your physician for what best suits your needs. Just sayin'.
What works best for you, ladies and gents? Tell me, I'm all ears.
