He told me he loved me.
I stopped to pick up a deli sandwich for work. A gentleman was standing by the door, slender build, rugged handsome, mask-less.
I choose my sandwich, head to checkout. The gentleman is standing in a different spot, I walk on by.
I pay, fill my water bottles on the way out, head for the parking lot. Gentleman, passing me, tells me he knows it looks like he’s following me, but he’s not. I tell him it’s the no mask thing, we have to stick together. He nods in agreement, tells me he expected someone to say something. Yeah, I respond, and I’m ready to tell them to go 2020 themselves. He nods, points at me, pauses, tells me, “I love you.” Lord have mercy, these days it doesn’t take much to make me smile. I laugh and tell him, “Well, I love you too.”
We’re learning huevos grandes, who is foxhole worthy. It’s often not who I thought it would be.
It was a good day.
