Restoring Headlights

One of my Air Force buddies made Maggie and I an offer we couldn't refuse:

"Grilling some burgers tonight. You and Maggie Rose drive over and I will grill both of you one."

Getting in a much needed workout, I declined this offer, and I love a good burger, friend knows how to cook, grill. "You won't receive a better offer." I KNOW that's right. I suggested we have burgers the following day. Replying he has something better than burgers, dry aged NY strip, and baked potatoes, I'm on board. Mind you, burgers would get me over the pass. I'm not crazy about the pass, unless it's a hike, I can count on two fingers how many times I've personally driven the pass. This is a big deal, to drive over for lunch/dinner.

The day was perfect to get away, leave home for a bit. Water was turned off in my neck of the woods while updates to our system were taking place. Friend messages, tells me to bring my laundry if I want, and I will be able to utilize his washer and dryer. Last year he told me to come over and we could restore my headlights. I'm thinking we can check several "to do's" off my list.

Maggie and I sleep in, as sleep is an elusive creature these days. We take our time, stop at the grocery store to fetch cucumbers, and milk to add to my homemade ranch dressing. We head over the pass, a most beautiful drive. Driving over, I hug the mountain, it's not a big deal, just a gorgeous drive.

I'm a medium rare kinda gal, he a medium rare kind of gent. Perfect. Have I said he knows how to grill? He does, and then some. Not wanting to appear heathen, I controlled my drool. Our baked potatoes were cooked to perfection, and a salad prepared by another is always divine. This meal was absolutely perfect.

A nap really would have been nice, after our meal, but headlights awaited. Utilizing proper tools when doing chores such as this makes life easier. He owns a lovely polisher, buffer. In short order, my headlights look new. I can't wait to drive at night. Rather than looking like a flashlight with failing batteries, I'll actually see, as he tells me, the deer walking in front of my car, before driving within an inch of dear deer's life.

Everyone needs a friend like my friend. Conversation is always easy, no one feels the need to talk about nothing. If there's silence, so be it. It's a comfortable silence. I wash laundry without worry of corona, or rushing. Eventually it's time to make the trek home, back over the pass, wide open drop-offs to my right. I make it just fine, breathing like I'm giving birth, laying fear to rest, eventually. Before I pull out of his driveway, he prepares a care package for Maggie and I — frozen hamburger, chicken, sausage, bacon, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. Perhaps he was concerned about my food supply, I don't know, but my freezer is stuffed, no groceries needed.

Maggie and I later in the evening enjoy the other half of my steak. I think it was even better the second time.

I didn't realize how much I needed companionship, after weeks of staying home like a good girl.

Thank you friend for blessing my life every day.

Now to wash this old beauty, the car.
