Last night I was listening to a podcast having nothing to do with human trafficking. However, when the subject of shutting down our nation for COVID-19 came up, at one point the host talked about epidemics (eventually pandemics) that get little to no attention. As an example, human trafficking. More than 100,000 kids between the ages of 10-17 go missing EVERY year, many never to be seen again. Every year. Here, in America. Why do we not shut our nation down for this? Kids, children?
Years ago I had the privilege of meeting an individual who worked rescuing victims from Thailand’s underground sex rings. (Here’s a most unfortunate fact: the vast majority of those soliciting children for sex, in Thailand, are Americans. Let that sink in.) After this person gave me numbers and such, I asked how they help them, those who are rescued, how do they survive, face each day? I was told it’s hard, each day is a new day, each day they decide to live. Or not. Lots of counseling...and many don’t make it, their lives forever destroyed, the will to live taken away, stolen innocence.
My heart breaks.
Pandemics are bad, lives are unfortunately lost. There are pandemics, and then there are PANDEMICS. We have worse pandemics around the world than COVID-19, in my opinion, unspeakable acts.
