Weird Day

Woke up yesterday with a weird small painful knot on my face.

Woke up today, my upper lip looks like it’s turned inside out, tells me even if I could afford collagen injections, or even wanted them, I don’t, I wouldn’t look pretty. My eye was swollen, almost shut.

Dang.

Call Dr. X to see what the protocol is for eval. Go to Urgent care. Okay, thought I read different procedures during pandemic, but I can’t find them. (Who thinks they will need to see the doc during pandemic anyway? Not me.)

At Urgent Care, can’t get past masked guard in lobby, which is good, to me, as it means they’re serious. Who sent you? Dr. X. Why are they sending people here, more to herself than to me. I don’t know, I tell her, but I suspect an infection, as this happened when I had a root canal go south, same presentation, but no teeth involved this time. As the entire right side of my face is involved, misshapen, I need to get it checked.

I’m introduced to Zoom. I coulda done this at home, but all of us are learning.

I like Zoom doctor visits. Why don’t we do this all the time? Not that I’m always going to the doctor, but when I DO need a doc, this is grand.

Diagnosis was exactly as I thought, we don’t know why, however.

Antibiotics, another visit tomorrow. To ER if worsens.

As I was downloading app in parking lot, Nurse Guard comes out, makes sure I understand procedures, tells me my lips look great. 😳 She tells me hers are thin like her mothers. Insert laugh. Well, mine aren’t thin on a normal day, and today is far from normal. I felt like I looked like a pouty child, but hey, probably because my upper lip was about to inhibit breathing through my nose. Beauty is a weird thing, one’s ugly is another’s ideal.

During consult, doctor thinks I’m holding a pen with a feather on the end...it was the back of Maggie’s head, and her ear. Doctor LOVES my Maggie. Said dogs are what’s keeping Jackson sane right now. It’s true.

We went for a walk afterward. Maggie was run over by a bicycle, smack dab in the middle of her belly. She was coming up on my backside when the biker ran over her. Scared me to death. Scared Maggie too, badly. She appears fine.

It’s been a freakin’ day.

Tonight we are doing well. Maggie’s snoring beside me, ate dinner, when I felt her ribs and such she didn’t cry. No blood. Internal concerns me, we will wait and see. George is snuggled to my left, just being the magnificent creature as usual. He HAS tried to clean my hair a couple times. Shower time? Naw...quarantine.

Post script: at the grocery store a family of four was walking in, young children. It happened last time I was in the store. Why? This is the one place people aren’t taking guidelines serious. Older folks were picking up groceries. Don’t hurt mawmaw and pawpaw by bringing unnecessary family to market.

Social distancing on pathways was perfect, lots of people out, and usually significantly more than six feet apart. But we are all usually more than six feet apart in Wyoming. I think people like the distance. I do.

Another post script: why is toilet paper still in short supply? Stop it.
