Sitting on my sofa, downing my last drop of coffee, breathing, taking a deep breath, after an exceptionally busy retail season, I open Buckrail to read about "Jackson 5: Petticoat Painters".
Having met a couple of these talented ladies, and losing myself in their work, and the work of others, common threads of those who find themselves in Jackson, intentional or happenstance, bears further scrutiny.
Here, often, live artist, writers, actors, directors, and designers, all sorts of designers. If they don't live here, they come here, as often as possible. Do they already know what took me decades to learn, what I wish I'd known and taught my kids—you don't walk away from majesty and beauty, Jackson, the Tetons, the same way you arrived? I suspect most natural beauty inspires, this happens to be where I landed, by pure luck, or divine guidance, never having stepped foot in Wyoming. Like a good teacher, inspirational mentors, nature speaks, quietly. One wants to dig in, find the best within, pour out best, words, paint, designs, whatever the medium, and share with the world. I shake my head. What causes this, why are so many inspired to great works? Is it because we take a breath, slow our pace, our roll? Maybe. Let me tell you though, work is tough, hours long, and then breathing, intentional, slowing for a bit, brings fresh perspective, inspiration, the desire to share EVERYTHING, all the good, beauty and majesty. Shouting with paint, words, whatever, spreading beauty, encompasses lives.
A budding artist (they say), at my ripe age, I want to learn more, more, more, about everyone, everything. Teach me, tell me your story, I almost beg acquaintances.
Life, being sacred, precious, help me learn not to worry needlessly, not to judge harshly, at all—foundations for fear, judgments—these are exhausting, fruitless. Help me find words to adequately, successfully, inspire others.
Peace flood my soul.
My goal for the rest of my life? Read more, meet new people often, learn learn learn, find new, better ways to express that which almost can't be contained, enthusiasm, over-flowing, hope, most importantly hope.
Climb every mountain, I want to climb mountains.
Never give up.
Never quit.
(Read the story of these gifted ladies, learn more about them. Texas connections are guaranteed, I happily find this happens often.)
