So I call the deli at Albertson's and ask for Esther. As the gentleman tells Esther she has a phone call, I hang up and rush to the deli.
There she is standing behind a table, probably telling the gentleman someone hung up on her. I wasn't wasting time, she's been hard to catch.
Motioning her over to a little open area off to the side, I let her know I was the one who hung up on her. You're hard to catch.
I tell her I stay in touch with Texas via Facebook since moving to Wyoming. I let her know her kindness was shared with Facebook, and a Texas friend wanted to send her a t-shirt.
Unfolding the shirt for her to see, she looked like a little baby owl, all wide eyed, kinda like oh no Mister Bill. She was precious. I give her the card my Texas friend sent her, along with kindness stickers.
She's shaking her head, telling me, "I don't know how to act differently, it's just who I am." She tells me she doesn't know what to say. Nothing, Esther, you don't have to say anything. Just keep doing what you're doing, making a difference, I tell her.
Now, hold your t-shirt up and let me get a picture to share with Texas and my Facebook friends. She's still shaking her head.
Today was good for so many reasons, but this has to be one of the best reasons. Esther was surprised. And grateful. And happy. Giving is absolutely better than receiving. Every. Time.
