The Bee

I’ve never liked my name. And it means ‘Bee’. While all my friends had cute little feminine, fairy meaning names, they looked at mine and laughed...BEE. Seriously? I researched bible Deborah:

According to the Book of Judges, Deborah (Hebrew: דְּבוֹרָה, Dəḇōrāh, "bee") was a prophetess of the God of the Israelites, the fourth Judge of pre-monarchic Israel and the only female judge mentioned in the Bible, and the wife of Lapidoth.

Poor Lapidoth. I suspect he had his hands full. I need to see what his name means, probably ‘Long Suffering Man’.

Upon further research...

Lapidoth=Torch

Hmmm...fiery. Truth. Scary.

“Torches. Deborah is called "the wife of Lapidoth" (Judges 4:4). Some have rendered the expression "a woman of a fiery spirit," under the supposition that Lapidoth is not a proper name, a woman of a torch-like spirit.”

When naming my children, I believed (believe) strong names were essential. We call them by their names often. If we say “Wimp, come here,” Wimp will learn what wimp means. Do you see my point? So my kids are Thomas Jacob, Timothy Micah, and Hannah Alexandra...if the choice had been solely up to me, Hannah would’ve been Hannah Grace. Cause all Hannah’s need a little Grace. But it is what it is. Hannah is tenacious, wears me out. Jacob is quietly strong, determined beyond belief. He too gave me a run for my money. Micah, well, read the book of Micah...he’s exactly Micah. Micah has a quiet tenacity. He thinks mama doesn’t know. We won’t tell him everything she knows. And Micah’s told Jacob of his transgressions, much to the chagrin of Jacob.

If I believe my children’s names are strong, and oh they are, why would I not believe the same for me?

I choose to believe.

This almost makes me weep.
