Phyllis Ann White Shows is a gifted artist, I met years ago, in Waco, Texas. She gave me permission to share this heartbreaking story. I will share more later.
The picture is of precious Gary.
In a world full of tacky and judging, be a Phyllis Ann, kindness and compassion, personified.
This is how she spent her day, yesterday:
This was my morning. Thankful for those who donated to Journey to the Streets, because of what you collectively gave, I was able to help two gentlemen out today.
This morning the man Gary, who lost his girlfriend, I found walking on Clay close to where she passed. He saw my car and his eyes lit up! I had told him I would bring him a tent (thank you Frank Quinones) and I had it and a few other food items and hygiene items. He is now alone. He was so thankful and I took him so he could show me where he sleeps sometimes outside of a church. He is looking for odd jobs and has been helping clean up around a house being built.
Next I drove over to Salvation Army to see if the young girl I met from the Whitney area was around there. Only a woman that someone had bought food for that looked to be in her late 50’s. She was sitting talking like she was explaining something to someone but no one was there. Oh she’s sitting under a No Loitering Sign at Sal Army! Wonder where she ended up going? Heartbreaking!
As I am leaving a guy street name CarWash came to the car. They all recognize my white HHR. He asked about a belt. I took him to Dollar General and got him a pair of shorts, 2 shirts, a belt and socks 34$. . Would Not let me buy him a candy bar or drink he was very thankful. He was still wearing the shoes that Karen had gotten him in the winter. Good shoes that had held up.
CarWash said I had done enough and he was He was going to change and go to Milo to see about work. Milo is very good about hiring our homeless.
Tomorrow I will go to do crafts at Salvation Army at noon where I will have a chance to sit down and visit longer term with our friends.
So many needs ... Thank you again for being a part of this ministry. I stand in awe of what God has allowed me to do. Never if you asked me 7 years ago would I tell you I would be serving God on the streets of Waco. I am humbled that He called me out!
I can’t say enough about all of you, my friends, who are walking this walk beside me and in prayer and donations!
It has taken a village! I always tell my homeless friends it all comes from God and my friends who provide money and supplies. God bless you all!!!
Our precious Gary who lost his loved one Rhonda on Saturday. As he said she is all he had. And looking at where he slept last night... she was all he had.
