Her name is Kelly. Her book is Keto East, bilingual. Y'all know I like languages. You also know I have a difficult time focusing on just one. However, my attention deficit doesn't stop me from trying to learn a few words and phrases, of yet another language. One of my colleagues and I practice very basic Mandarin, with our Asian guests. They are so kind, and have never called us dufus's or dumb, to our limited knowledge. Most are appreciative, and huge smiles are hard to hide.
Kelly grew up in Singapore. I didn't know her before last week, and in fact, I'd not seen her cookbook. A pure delight, she lights up a room and doesn't know a stranger, even a heavy Texas drawl southerner, with big hair and curves.
Kelly is headed over to our flagship, along with another colleague. I tell her to rip off a line of Mandarin to my associate, the tall blonde. Oh I'm so mischievous at times. Agreed, she tells me, and she repeats back what I said, I will rip off a line. Beautiful and elegant, repeating what I said, her sense of humor shines. I almost fell out laughing.
Later, I ask flagship friend if she met Kelly. Oh my gosh, she tells me. This person walks up to me and speaks a LOT of Mandarin. She tells me Kelly and our colleague start laughing. Poor friend said she realized something was sketchy. The ladies told her I'd put Kelly up to shenanigans. I laughed so much that day. What fun.
Kelly has promised to teach me more of this challenging language.
(I'm not promising accuracy in the image I made. The text may should read Xièxiè, máfan nínle, I really don't know how formal and correct my version will translate. Have mercy, be kind. I'm learning.)
My blog is advertisement free, always. There's nothing worse than taking time to check out a blog, and then being forced to X out of all advertisements. I like easy access, straight to the good stuff. Therefore, I am not in any way, shape, or form, compensated for my glowing praise of Kelly and her book. It's just that good, as is she.
Besides, I write on my terms, much how I live my life.
Xiexie.
